A Case of Fetal Death after Maternal Infection of Korean Hemorrhagic Fever

Abstract

|
A woman who was in about seven months of pregnancy showed fever, headache, nausea and abdominal pain. On admission, she was diagnosed as Korean hemorrhagic fever and it was confirmed by the serologic test. Fetal death and abortion followed after several hours of hypotensive state. Autopsy findings of the fetus was systemic hemorrhage throughout the lungs, kidneys and adrenal glands. This findings was very similar to pathologic findings of adult patient of Korean hemorrhagic fever and it suggests the possibility of transplacentalfetal infection of maternal Korean hemorrhagic fever agent. Or if it is not true, it seems that systemic toxic effect of Korean hemorrhagic fever might do some harmful effect on fetus to death.
